BENNETT MAKES IT TWO IN
A ROW

– Saturday
night July 28, 2007 at Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, Oregon will be
remembered by ASA Aero Exhaust Northwest Tour driver Travis Bennett.
Following up his first Tour win two weeks ago with another proved that
this young rising star will be a tough foe for the remainder of the 2007
season. Mike Obrist led the first 60 laps and finished second. It was
three in row third place finishes for Kelly Tanner.
Obrist had a big lead until Bennett chased him down and made a pass in
traffic. Obrist stayed on Bennett’s bumper until a restart inside ten laps
had Bennett pulling away.
Bennett’s win had some significance, besides two in row. The last Tour
race at Douglas County Speedway was in 1999. A young driver won his ever
tour race. Kevin Hamlin’s first ever tour win, propelled him onto two
successive championships. The ironic portion of the story is that Bennett
and Hamlin where driving for the same team.
The 2007 points chase changed. Jay Sauls held a slim 2-point advantage
entering the race. He is leaving Roseburg in third twelve back of new
leader BJ Tidrick. Tidrick’s lead is slimmer with just 1-point separating
him and Kelly Tanner.
Next up for the ASA Aero Exhaust Northwest Tour will be a second trip to
Idaho’s Stateline Speedway on August 25. The 150-lap race is the next to
last event of the year.
