ASA NORTHWEST TOUR CONTINUES TO TRY
TO SOLVE TIRE PROBLEMS
July 17, 2007 Ellensburg, Washington
– The ASA Northwest Tour officials have made yet
another tire change for the series. The new tire will be the Hoosier 2045.
With Goodyear slowing production and their ability to supply tires to
their distributors, tracks and racing series were forced to look for
another tire source. The ASA Northwest tour selected a tire made by
American Racer. While this tire has performed without any problems
throughout the United States, some problems were experienced at the
Northwest tour event at Yakima Speedway on July 7th. On July 14th the
Yakima Speedway Late Models also competed with this tire. Again, probably
due to triple digit temperatures and the design of the ˝ mile track, some
problems were encountered. After talking with the American Racer engineers
and owners, it was decided to move to another tire while the company can
evaluate the unique needs of Yakima Speedway.
Starting with the July 28th race at Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg,
Oregon, the ASA Northwest Tour will be using the Hoosier 2045 tire.
Ron Bennett, series administrator stated, “I cannot thank Dave Mateer of
American Racer and Butch and Nick Behn, of Race Car Supply, enough for
their help in working through this difficult problem”. Bennett goes on to
say,” I know that the American Racer tire is an excellent product and
Yakima Speedway, with the hump off turn four, the constant turning on the
straights and the high speeds on a flat track, combine for a unique set of
circumstances that are probably not duplicated at any other facility. We
will continue to work with this fine company in the future, and certainly
be in contact with them for our future tire needs”.
