ASA NORTHWEST TOUR
ANNOUNCES NEW TIRE PROVIDER
June 25 2007 Yakima,
WA –
On Monday June 25, 2007 ASA Northwest Tour
officials announced starting with the July 7 race at Yakima Speedway a new
tire will be used to finish out the season. The American Racer tire was
chosen as the mid-season replacement for the Goodyear tire.
Ron Bennett, ASANWT director made the decision to change tire companies
after a long agonizing day. Goodyear who has had trouble supplying tires
this season due to production problems will be unable to supply the
correct tires by the next race on July 7. “I hate to make the change after
a long standing relationship with Goodyear,” lamented Bennett. “It had to
be done with no guarantee that Goodyear will be able to supply right and
left side tires that are so critical with the set up and safety for the
NWT stock cars.”
Bennett went on to say, “We chose the American Racer tire after many
discussions with drivers and other touring series. Among many reasons for
choosing the new tire, three stood out. The cost of the tire, the
availability and the good report from the SRL touring division officials
were the main reasons for deciding on this tire.”
The new American Racer tire will be available soon at Winner’s Choice.
They will continue as the tire supplier for the ASANWT. The required tire
compounds will be the EC 21 on the left side and the EC 31 on the right
side.
A decision will be made later this week after conferring with the drivers
on whether there will be a Friday practice session prior to the Saturday
July 7 race.
“Again I want to thank Goodyear for their many years of support and this
was a very tough decision to make,” said Bennett.
