PACIFIC RACEWAYS HOSTS THE ASA
AERO EXHAUST NORTHWEST TOUR
May 30, 2008 Ellensburg, WA– The ASA Aero Exhaust Northwest Tour
presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment heads to a road course for
the first time on Friday and Saturday June 6 & 7. Pacific Raceways
in Kent, Washington provides the venue for the season’s longest
event. The $35,0000.00 purse is also the seasons largest.
The Blue Water Wireless Road Course Challenge has the Northwest’s
best Late Model Stock Car Teams gathering for the 90-mile race. The
two day extravaganza includes the ASANWT Late Model Stock Cars,
Northwest Legends Series and NOS Energy Drink Pro Drifter Cars
The Pacific Raceways Road Course is a world-class, SCCA and NASCAR
certified, 10-turn (9 turns with a "kink" in the main straightaway),
2.25-mile course. The 170 MPH front straight is at an elevation of
150 feet above sea level. There is a total elevation change of 125
feet, of which 100 feet occurs in 1/2 mile, between turn 2 and turn
3B.
Winding through natural wooded terrain, its sweeping curves and
hairpin turns make it one of the most unique and challenging courses
in the United States.
The ASANWT was started one year ago when NASCAR after 21-years
decided to end its affiliation with the tour. A group of racing
enthusiasts got together and was able to keep the series going.
Under the American Speed Association (ASA) sanctioning the series is
making a strong comeback. The big money event will bring present ASA
and past NASCAR racers together.
The strictly circle track traveling series is making its first ever
road course stop under the ASA banner. The early entries have a
mixture of experience on a road courses from well experienced to
rookies. The rules for this ASANWT 2008 season point’s race are
designed to allow the weekly Saturday night circle track racer to
turn their car into a road course car. Only allowing minor changes
to their cars has kept the costs down and keeps the road course
specific cars away.
With $5,000.00 to win and $800.00 to make the start of the 40-lap
main on Saturday, former NASCAR Champions have pre-entered. Head
lining this group is the current ASANWT season point’s leader Pete
Harding, Ron Eaton, Kelly Tanner and Gary Lewis. Returning to racing
after some years off are Joe Benedetti, Shane Biles and Brad Tidrick
Sr.
The 90-mile 40-lap main will be run in two segments. Segment one
will be for 30-laps. A short break for refueling with minor
adjustments being allowed (no tire changing allowed) will precede
the final 10-lap segment.
Friday June 6 is a practice day for all three classes. Included in
the days activities will be product displays by Performance Corner,
NOS Energy Drink, Bret Chevrolet, Nationwide Insurance, Human
Horsepower, AAA the Official Auto Club of Pacific Raceways plus
others. There will music for the fan to enjoy. Practice starts at
1:00pm ending at 7:00pm.
Saturday June 7 pre qualifying practice begins at 9:30am with
alternating sessions for the three classes. Qualifying begins at
11:15am. The first main event gets started at 2:00pm. The ASANWT
40-lap main expected to start around 4:00pm. The midway will be in
