ASA AERO EXHAUST NORTHWEST TOUR STATELINE RACE CANCELED!!
May 6, 2008 Ellensburg, WA –
The Northwest Tour event set for Stateline Speedway on May 10th has
been cancelled. Officials at Stateline Speedway canceled the race
when a definite number of competitors could be given.
Ron Bennett, Northwest Tour administrator stated “the recent
rainouts, skyrocketing fuel costs, and racing expenses for all of
the Northwest teams have been an extremely huge hardship on the
finances of the teams. The teams have had travel expenses, tire
costs, practice costs, and pit fees in the few opening events around
the Northwest, and then due to the weather, the feature events get
cancelled through no ones fault. When the features are not run, the
teams receive no pay to help offset the expenses. Some teams just
could not commit, at this time, to the expense of a long tow, motel
rooms etc.”
Tour officials are disappointed that the event had to be cancelled.
Most teams expressed the desire to attend the Stateline race. Citing
that the costs coupled with the chance of unsure weather this time
of year, they did not feel they could afford another set back to
their annual racing budget.
“The fans and promoters at all of the facilities deserve the very
best shows. Exciting racing, good car counts and a professional run
event are what the Northwest Tour tries to bring to any facility,”
stated a dejected Bennett.
Other traveling Late Model Stock Car Racing series around the
country have run into the same situation and are canceling and
realigning their remaining schedules
The next event is set for Yakima Speedway on May 24. “While the
cancellation is a blow to all of the racing community,” Bennett
stated, “the event at Yakima promises fans a good car count and all
of the excitement of the best in Late Model racing. An expected
drivers list will be released soon. Following Yakima’s date is
Pacific Raceways on June 7th. The committed list has grown daily.
There will be some surprises entering this much anticipated high
money event.”
Northwest Tour officials would like to thank the owners of Stateline
Speedway for their plans and considerations in scheduling the event
at their fine facility. At the time no one could have imagined the
costs of traveling would rise to historic levels.
