ASA AERO EXHAUST NORTHWEST TOUR OPENER WASHED (SNOWED OUT)
March 30, 2008 Monroe, WA –
The ASA Aero Exhaust
Northwest Tour Presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment season
opening race at Evergreen Speedway was cancelled when more wet
weather moved in just as the series was to start qualifying.
The officials at Evergreen Speedway tried valiantly to get the race
in. There were clearing skies and a promising forecast of an opening
in the weather system. Both of the ASA traveling series held
successful practice sessions. The ASA/NSRA Sprint cars qualified as
the skies started to grey and thicken. There was a short lived
shower that moved in and wet down the front stretch only. The wind
started to blow and the temperature dropped.
There was a concerted effort to dry the track which was taking
longer than normal with the cold conditions. Just as it looked like
the track would be race ready another shower moved across the track.
That is when the track officials decided it would be futile to try
and wait it out.
As the cars were loading up it started to rain very hard and within
2 hours there was over 2” of snow on the track.
The very unpredictable weather over the entire state of Washington
created havoc for the Tour competitors from the south and eastern
parts of the northwest. With up to a foot of snow in places and icy
conditions forcing the DOT to require chains in places, many of the
teams were forced to go back home.
The ASANWT Officials want to thank these teams for trying to get to
the opening race of the 2008 season.
The race will not be rescheduled. The ASA Aero Exhaust Northwest
Tour Presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment returns to Evergreen
Speedway on Saturday July 26 for the Washington 500.
